Double Chocolate Crumb Doughnuts

Double Chocolate Crumb Doughnuts

Here's what you'll need:

For the Doughnut:

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup sour cream (or substitute greek yogurt)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Glaze:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Crumb Topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

You'll need a doughnut pan for this one; mini or regular size. The mini are great when preparing for dessert!

Instructions:

  1. First you'll want to make the doughnuts. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly mist a doughnut pan with non-stick spray.
  2. Place the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine.
  3. In a smaller bowl, mix the sour cream, sugar, oil, egg, and vanilla together.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, and fold together just until combined (batter will be thick and lumpy).
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and bake the doughnuts for 11 minutes.
  6. Cool on a wire rack and set aside.
  7. Next up, prepare the crumb topping. Melt the butter in a medium pot over low heat.
  8. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa, and salt, and toss together with a fork until crumbly.
  9. Lastly, you need to make the glaze. Stir the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together in a medium bowl until smooth.
  10. Once your doughnuts have completely cooled, dip into the glaze face down. Press crumb topping onto the glaze and allow to cool.
  11. Drizzle some of the remaining icing over the top of the doughnuts, and top with powered sugar.
